Hello Lima,
Watch out! ;) I have successfully landed in Lima and made my way to the bus station where I purchased a ticket to Cusco, which turns out to be a 20hr bus ride!! Woohoo! I had to spring for the "chair-bed" seating so I could sleep comfortably overnight. I slept surprisingly well on the flight to Lima but that was still just about 5 and 1/2 hours.
Anyhow I was able to leave my big backpack at the bus station for free and I have been just walking around Lima, checking out the sites and attractions. I honestly will be glad to get on the bus though and get to Cusco. I feel like even just a few hours around Lima is plenty. Apparently the outer neighborhoods are more affluent and trendy but I'm not really here to shop and surf, I want to see PEOPLE. Not that there aren't plenty of people here in Lima, but maybe the city and I just got off on the wrong foot when I arrived at 6:30am and the partiers were still out on the streets. Luckily I saw a few of them wandering into the church during the mass I attended to kill time and wait for the shops to open. Hopefully they repented, haha!
After things Stared opening up I took to the streets again and started following a walking tour listed in my guidebook while keeping an eye out for a place for breakfast. I found a dunkin doughnuts (yum!) and refueled there. My walking tour was nice, but very similar to a lot of European cities I've seen. I'm ready for the mountains! Well I've got to be off, I have a bus to catch fairly soon :). I'll update when I get to Cusco, yay!
Love love love!
Maia Jo
